Medical Assistance Program

Medical Assistance Program

Friends of AAC knows the cost of veterinary care can weigh heavily on pet owners, often leading to the heartbreaking choice to surrender a pet to the shelter.

That’s why we created the Medical Assistance Program. In collaboration with the Pet Resource Center of Austin Animal Center, the goal of the Medical Assistance Program of Friends of AAC is to prevent the surrender of pets to the shelter in situations where a modest, one-time financial grant would positively impact an owner’s ability to provide necessary veterinary treatment and keep the pet at home.  Owners must be able to pay the total cost of treatment if it exceeds the grant amount and commit to supporting the pet through recovery.

Speciality Care

Sometimes an animal at Austin Animal Center needs speciality care, beyond what the on site Veterinary Services team can provide. Working with the on site Veterinary Team, Friends of AAC helps ensure those animals can get the outside vet care they need.

Toony had a large mass growing on his back leg that needed to be removed. Due to the location on his leg, it required a specialist for removal. Thanks to our donors, Toony was able to get the surgery he needed and was soon adopted afterwards!
